Over the years, I began to notice changes in my materials, which led me to look more closely at one of my most trusted, long-standing mineral companions: cobalt. I initially believed that focusing on cobalt would help narrow my research as I thought that it would focus my work on a single inspiration and create boundaries that I could play within. Instead, I encountered deep historical and contemporary system entanglements, a material with memory, and a material that continually transforms. My work responds to this inquiry through studio-based experimentation, research-based making, and reflective decision processes using both ceramic and digital elements. Digital components entered the work when I realized how far the ceramic materials I work with extend into the deeper infrastructures of contemporary technologies. Through this process, cobalt becomes both material and guide, revealing how artistic practice can trace the unexpected connections between mineral matter, technological systems, and cultural memory.
